The video surveillance system is used both at home and in commercial establishments to monitor movement of people. Also known as closed circuit TV (CCTV) it is used to monitor pathways and insecure areas around homes to prevent break ins and intrusions.

A video surveillance system is made up of the following:

Monitors: They are used to display video information processed by strategically placed cameras in and around the house. These monitors have better video resolution than the standard television receivers The resolution of a black-and-white CCTV monitor ranges from 700-1000 lines whereas the colored monitors have a resolution of 350-400 lines.

Cameras: They are placed at strategic locations to monitor the movement of unknown or suspicious persons. They beam this information to the monitors.

Coaxial cabling: It is used to transport video information from the cameras to the monitors.

Switchers: They are used to hook two or more cameras to a monitor. Advanced switchers provide facility to hook alarm inputs so that the corresponding camera is targeted and locked when the alarm is activated.

Radio Shack home security system comprises of a variety of security gizmos. These include wireless security systems, sirens, personal security alarms, PIR motion detectors, door chimes, stick-on window alarms, portable motion sensors, outdoor motion sensors, carbon monoxide alarms and infrared beam sensors.

Most of Radio Shack security products are unique. The most amazing is the Rex-10 Barking Dog Alarm. This alarm is high-quality digital recording of a real barking dog. The alarm can be activated with a remote key whenever a house owner hears a suspicious noise. The loud and fierce barking that erupts will scare even the most lion-hearted intruder.

The motion-sensing Door Chime/Alarm plays a similar role. When punched legally it emits a sweet chime announcing the arrival of a visitor. However, if someone wants to open the door illegally the alarm lets off a 110 decibel ear-shattering sound.

Radio Shack also sells the Reporter Expandable Wireless Alert System. This wireless device can pick up human and vehicle motion up to 30 feet, and is very suitable to guard doors, driveways, business entrances, garages, barns, storage areas etc. A key feature of this device is that it does not let off false alarms.
